It's definitely a sad thing to see it come to this after so many years of QUALITY entertainment, but as the old saying goes, all good things must come to an end eventually. That was another segment that was an annual highlight of the show that just wasn't possible as they got older, and its absence was sorely felt. Personally the beginning of the end for me was when they grew too old to take part in Batsu Tag anymore. Matsumoto will continue on with his hosting gigs and of course Documental. I would put good money on retirement for him being not far away. This batsu game is the result of Matsumoto winning the race against the four others in Gaki no tsukai - 4 tai 1 100m sou Taiketsu (on Oct. Hamada in contrast has really lost a step, and this newfound negative attitude towards casual violence in Japanese media has really blunted him as a comedian. The 'No Laughing' Batsu Game itself (broadcast annually during the New Years Holiday) was first introduced in 2003. As for Downtown, Matsumoto is as brilliant as he's always been, if not less energetic in his delivery. Perhaps the best known Gaki no Tsukai episodes are those dealing with batsu games, or punishment games, in which one or more of the cast members are subjected to after losing bets, major competition, or physical challenges. Endo in particular just can't hold a candle to what the other 4 bring and really never has. If anything Cocorico's one dimensional style has only gotten worse as the years have gone on.

Hosei has an aura about him that makes his reactions to being bullied so much funnier. They tried to pivot away from the segment where they torture Hosei's bare ass with Tanaka instead last year and it just didn't work as well. The room with the desks and drawers with pranks will always be a staple, but the pranks therein have become really stale, especially the predictable Tanaka Thai kick. Their age has definitely caught up with them, along with a general lack of fresh ideas for the batsu game. Last years No Laughing was honestly the worst since Prison, and probably the worst overall.
